Killswitch Engage...The New Album

Killswitch Engage – KsE

Sadly, as some Killswitch fans may agree, although still an amazing metal album, it is still not a lick on End of Heartache, and of course not forgetting the seminal Alive or Just Breathing. Obviously hearing the single track ‘Staring Over’ before the actual opener ‘Never Again’, it is believed that the single is the better opener, with the fade-in crash at the beginning, and the twin guitar styling’s of Adam and Joel, it makes a better choice to set off the rest of the album.
‘Starting Over’ gives the album the classic KsE feel. Soulful, emotional lyrics, with the hard-hitting riffs the Killswitch have made their name off. Following with the deafening ‘The Forgotten’ and ‘Reckoning’, making the album a more all encompassing product, although it seems as though these are the only tracks that give album any substance. The tracks that follow, e.g. ‘A light in a Darkened World’ and ‘I Would Do Anyting’ etc almost seem just as if they were filler, that is of course until the final track...’This is Goodbye’.
For starters, the title alone suggests an end to something...a goodbye. With that, the lyrics, ‘it’s over, please lay me to rest’, is like saying, “put a fork in it, this album’s done”.
Now hardcore Killswitch fans will no doubt buy this, and still think it’s good, but as for the fans whose first KsE album this is, definitely get the albums suggested above first, listen to this band in their prime, either with Alive or Just Breathing, or the Debut Howard Jones album , End of Heartache. Both show the bands phenomenal progression in the New England metal scene and set their place at Roadrunner Records as one of the best and most original metal bands around.
